China is reinforcing its commitment to bolstering cooperation with Central Asian nations as demonstrated by Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit to Kyrgyzstan. The discussions emphasized regional cooperation and multilateral coordination, particularly focusing on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the China–Central Asia mechanism, and the United Nations as key platforms for collaboration.
During the visit, Chinese officials met with leaders and foreign ministers from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. In Kyrgyzstan, China pledged support for the country’s upcoming hosting of the SCO Bishkek Summit and reiterated its backing for Kyrgyzstan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both countries agreed to enhance their efforts in maintaining regional peace, security, and development.
The discussions with Uzbekistan centered on the advancement of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway project. Both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in cutting-edge sectors like artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, and modern industrial development. These areas are seen as pivotal for future growth and technological innovation between the two nations.
In Tajikistan, China and the host country reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening bilateral ties. The two countries are looking to broaden practical cooperation in energy and regional connectivity, which is supported by a long-term friendship and cooperation treaty signed earlier this year. This agreement lays the groundwork for future collaborative endeavors.
Through this visit, China underscored its strategic partnership with Central Asia, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, trade, technological advancement, and ensuring regional stability. These commitments highlight China’s growing influence and strategic interests in the Central Asian region.
