China’s foreign trade has demonstrated significant growth in the first eight months of the year, with the total value of imports and exports reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This reflects a substantial 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Exports alone surged by 14.6%, amounting to 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports saw an even more impressive rise of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan.
In August, the momentum of trade growth accelerated, witnessing a year-on-year increase of 19.8% in the total imports and exports of goods, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. During this month, exports experienced a growth of 18.6%, and imports climbed by 21.7%. This pattern of growth suggests a robust expansion in trade activities, with both exports and imports contributing significantly to the overall increase.
Notably, the trend of double-digit growth in both exports and imports has persisted for four consecutive months. Remarkably, import growth has consistently outpaced export growth for the past six months, highlighting a dynamic shift in the trade balance.
These developments underscore the resilience and strength of China’s trade sector amidst a challenging global economic landscape. The sustained increase in trade figures reflects the country’s continuous efforts to enhance its import and export performance, further cementing its position as a key player in the international trade arena.
