During the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai, a significant meeting took place between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, underscoring the robust strategic partnership that exists between their nations. The dialogue between the two leaders highlighted a shared commitment to bolstering cooperation across various sectors.
President Xi expressed a desire to deepen collaboration by harmonizing development strategies with Kazakhstan. He emphasized the potential for expansion in several areas including trade, cross-border e-commerce, energy, transport, and digital economy initiatives. Furthermore, Xi underscored the importance of joint efforts in advancing artificial intelligence, as well as collaborations in education, healthcare, science, culture, and multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
President Tokayev, in return, acknowledged China’s role as Kazakhstan’s primary foreign policy partner and voiced his support for broadening cooperation. He highlighted key sectors for collaboration such as trade, investment, transportation, agriculture, energy, and AI governance. This mutual commitment reflects the strategic alignment between the two countries in addressing contemporary challenges and opportunities.
Following their discussions, the leaders witnessed the signing of several agreements aimed at strengthening ties in trade, transport, finance, and media. These agreements are set to enhance the bilateral relationship, providing a structured framework for future cooperation and development.
